DETAILS: Medical Coding Specialist

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Skills:

Excellent organization and problem-solving skills required.

Strong oral and written communication skills required.

Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.

Knowledge:

Advanced knowledge of medical coding and billing systems and regulatory requirements.

Advanced knowledge of auditing concepts and principles.

Experience:

At least one year of professional coding experience required; 1-3 years of professional coding experience from the hospital or office settings is highly desired. HCC coding experience is also desired. Ability to use Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel is highly preferred.

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a coding certificate program from the AAPC or AHIMA required. Coder must be able to provide proof of certification and coding certification identification number.

Additional Details for Engaging Candidates:

-All coding candidates must have current coding certifications; must provide proof of certification with valid certification identification number

-Must be certified through AAPC or AHIMA.

-Certifications accepted include CPC, CPC-A, CCS, RHIA, and RHIT.

-One or more years of coding experience is needed from the hospital or office setting. Candidates must have at least one year of professional coding experience. Coding experience in school, coding programs, or externships do not count toward professional coding experience when being reviewed.

-Coder must successfully pass the Coding test with at least 85% or higher; candidates scoring 90-95% are preferred. It has been our experience that coders who score around 95% perform the best on the job.

-Coders must be able to commit to working 40 hours per week.

-Coders are expected to meet and maintain quality and productivity standards

-Productivity standard is averaging 6 charts per hour

-Quality standard is averaging 95% on monthly quality audit scores

-New Coders will be expected to ramp up to be meeting quality and productivity standards after the first six weeks of combined training and coding.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
-An undergraduate's degree or higher degree.
- Certification in either CCA, CCS, CPC
-1 to 5years of Experience in Medical Coding in HCC or specialty coding like Inpatient,
Outpatient,Radiology, E/M, etc..
-General IJP rules as per UHG policy applies

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Frequent speaking, listening using a headset, sitting, use of hands/fingers across keyboard or mouse, handling other objects, long periods working at a computer
- Service center environment with moderate noise level due to Representatives talking, computers, printers, and floor activity
